About Mina Protocol

Mina Protocol (MINA) is the world's lightest blockchain, maintaining a constant size of just 22KB regardless of transaction history — compared to hundreds of gigabytes for Bitcoin or Ethereum. This is achieved using recursive ZK-SNARKs (zk proofs of zk proofs), where the entire blockchain state is compressed into a single succinct proof. Any device, including smartphones, can verify the full Mina blockchain in milliseconds. This enables true decentralization as anyone can run a full node without specialized hardware. Mina also supports zkApps — zero-knowledge smart contracts written in TypeScript that run off-chain while proving computation on-chain.

History

2017
O(1) Labs founded by Evan Shapiro and Izaak Meckler; Coda Protocol (later Mina) research begins.
2019
Coda Protocol paper published; first recursive ZK-SNARK blockchain architecture demonstrated.
2021
Mina Protocol mainnet launches; rebrands from Coda. MINA token distributes to stakers and community.
2022
zkApps (zero-knowledge smart contracts in TypeScript) launch on Mina testnet.
2023
Mina zkApps launch on mainnet; ecosystem of privacy-preserving applications begins growing.
2024
Mina expands cross-chain ZK bridge technology; zkPassport and identity proofs become key use cases.

How to Swap MINA

Exchanging Mina Protocol (MINA) on SyntheticSwap requires no account creation or identity documents. Open SyntheticSwap, choose MINA as your source or target coin, provide your destination wallet address, and review the floating rate displayed. After sending MINA from your personal wallet to the deposit address, the swap processes automatically and your chosen asset is delivered directly to your wallet. SyntheticSwap never holds your funds at any point during the process.

How to Store MINA

MINA is stored in Mina-compatible wallets. Auro Wallet is the most popular browser extension for Mina. Clorio is a desktop option. Ledger hardware wallets support MINA. Due to Mina's unique architecture, staking is built into the wallet — simply delegate to a validator to earn staking rewards.
