About Polygon

POL is the native token of the Polygon PoS network, the Ethereum-compatible chain used for cheap payments, stablecoin transfers and consumer apps. It replaced MATIC in September 2024 as part of the Polygon 2.0 upgrade: MATIC holders on Polygon PoS were upgraded automatically 1:1, and MATIC on Ethereum can be converted through the official migration contract. Exchanges and wallets now list the asset as POL.

POL pays gas on Polygon PoS and is staked by validators; the Polygon 2.0 design also lets the same token secure other Polygon chains through the AggLayer. In day-to-day use Polygon is one of the cheapest places to hold and move USDC and USDT.

Before you swap POL: what to check

How to store POL

Any EVM wallet with the Polygon network added (MetaMask, Rabby, Trust Wallet, hardware wallets). POL on Polygon PoS is the native coin — no token contract needed. If you still hold MATIC on Ethereum mainnet, convert it via Polygon's official portal, not through third-party sites.

If something looks wrong

The deposit is not showing up
Check the transaction in your wallet or on polygonscan.com: it must be on Polygon. Until it has 4 confirmations the status page shows it as pending — this is normal.
I sent a different amount than quoted
Amounts inside the limits are recalculated at the current floating rate. Amounts below the minimum cannot be processed and are returned to the refund address you gave (minus the network fee).
I sent on the wrong network
Funds sent on a network other than Polygon do not reach the deposit address automatically. Contact support with the transaction hash and the swap ID from the status page.
The payout has not arrived
Once the deposit is confirmed, the payout is broadcast within minutes. Check the destination address on its explorer; if the receiving service needs a memo or tag that was not provided, ask them to credit it manually with the transaction hash.
The rate changed while I waited
Rates are floating and locked at deposit confirmation. Slow confirmation (low fee, congested network) is the usual reason for a difference from the first estimate.
