Sky (SKY) is the governance token of Sky Protocol, the rebranded version of MakerDAO — one of DeFi's original and largest protocols. In 2024, MakerDAO rebranded to Sky, with MKR converting to SKY at a 1:24,000 ratio and DAI converting to USDS at 1:1. Sky Protocol issues USDS (formerly DAI), the largest decentralized stablecoin, overcollateralized by ETH, WBTC, RWAs, and other assets. The rebrand aimed to signal a new era focused on real-world asset integration and accessible DeFi. SKY holders govern protocol parameters, collateral types, and stability fees for USDS issuance.
