What happened
On 15 June 2026, following a community vote that passed with about 81% support, The Open Network renamed its native coin from Toncoin to Gram, with the ticker changing from TON to GRAM. The name is the one Telegram originally planned for its token in 2018, before the SEC lawsuit forced the company to abandon the project and the community continued it as The Open Network.
The network itself keeps its name: it is still The Open Network, still abbreviated TON. Only the coin's name, ticker and logo changed.
What did not change
- Balances: 10 Toncoin became 10 Gram. No conversion ratio, no new supply.
- Addresses and wallets: the same keys, the same addresses, the same seed phrases.
- Staking, NFTs, jettons, smart contracts: untouched.
- USDT on TON: unaffected — it is a separate token on the same network.
- Exchanges: converted TON to GRAM one-to-one in place; trading pairs such as TON/USDT became GRAM/USDT.
There was never a migration, claim, swap or upgrade transaction. Any website, bot or message asking you to "migrate TON to GRAM", "claim your GRAM" or connect a wallet to complete the rename is a phishing attempt.
What to watch for in wallets and services
- Wallet apps updated the name and logo through normal updates; older builds simply show "TON" for the same balance.
- Some price sites and APIs still list the coin under its old identifiers. SyntheticSwap's data provider, for example, keeps the Toncoin market-data ID for GRAM; the numbers are the same asset.
- The block explorer, address format (UQ…/EQ…, 48 characters) and fee behaviour are unchanged.
Swapping GRAM
GRAM pairs with USDT on TRON in both directions:
- GRAM → USDT TRC-20: GRAM deposits are credited after 2 confirmations, about ten seconds; the USDT payout lands on TRON in seconds.
- USDT TRC-20 → GRAM: the USDT deposit is credited after one confirmation; GRAM appears in your TON wallet a few seconds later.
Receiving GRAM: paste a TON address from Tonkeeper, Telegram Wallet or MyTonWallet. Self-custody wallets do not need a memo; only some custodial services do — if a deposit page shows one, enter it in the form's memo field.
Why the rename matters beyond branding
The rename came as part of a broader roadmap for the network, and it resolved a long-standing confusion between the network (TON) and the coin (also TON). For users the practical effect is small: the same asset, a new ticker, and a wave of scam attempts that borrowed the announcement. For anyone holding the coin, the only action is to ignore migration prompts and update wallet apps normally.
